Scholarship Essay Entry – Tricia H.

Changing the World... Together
Hello, my name is Tricia and I am an Education Student at the U of A. I believe that most of us have grown up believing that to change the world is an unrealistic goal. I know that to change the world you start with yourself and the people around you. I am constantly growing as I reach out to people in my community. I have been a part of Youth ministry most of my life. I have been a part of my church youth group, Camp St. Louis, and The Youth Oblate Ministry that is a ministry hired by the school board. From my experiences, I know and have witnessed the beauty of creating a community built on faith, love, charity and trust.
It is possible to reach out to others outside our community as well. My fiancé and I also are child sponsors through an organization called Chalice. We sponsor a young girl named Isabella so that she may receive the nourishment and education that so many are deprived of across the World.

While working in a school system I hope to create community within the school, the staff, the parents and the whole of society. The best way to change the world is to change the world together. My hopes is to not only be an example for the people around me but to be someone that leads activities and groups, such as youth groups, school councils or fundraisers. Bringing people together inside and outside of school will help the community, students, staff and parents to grow together and work as a team. I have faith that not only is this possible, but that one community, one group of people willing to make a difference can reach to more places than their own community. I will do this firstly; by showing I care about the people around me by showing compassion and trust for my students and staff. Secondly, illustrating that making a difference and coming together as a school and community is not only fun but also rewarding for everyone. Some examples would be to have your school communally sponsoring children from foreign countries, run penny carnivals to support other school charities, and other service projects that exemplify that we are all servants and shepherds of our faith. I want to create friendships and bonds that not only help to diminish problems like bullying and low self esteem of our youth, but also to build a team of people that work together to CHANGE THE WORLD!
