Scholarship Essay Entry – Mariya D.
I’m a volunteer at YWCA. When coming to work I have discussions with students who come to the gym on how we can improve our communities in order to function as a better society. I encourage people who I meet at YWCA, along with me, to try and make a difference, so that we can become a part of society in which people provide an aid to those newly arrived-to immigrants, refugees, and those who proved to be in the extreme situation. If I see that people care about changing lives of our communities, I consider them as people with an extreme importance and I encourage them to work on rendering the services for newcomers in the sphere of adaptation and job placement. In order to integrate immigrants into the economic, political and cultural life of the city, I exchange the required information and consultations. I would like to see our society in means that does not place itself under political purposes, but rather a society, activity of which would bear non-religious nature and would be based on general humanity-moral, ethical, and intellectual values. On a daily basis, I try to assert the traditions of volunteering, unselfishness, charity and patronage. I understand the importance of connection within groups of people regardless of their age, sex, religion, background, and other factors, as every ethnic group is unique and brings something of value to complete our society as one undivided unit. In order to promote our communities’ artistic side, I encourage students and their parents to support our young artists, poets, writers, musicians and other creative workers. We should try to do our best to get our people interested in creative events. Participation in the program on the exchange of students should be of extreme importance to our communities and I love exploring people’s thought on that in order to get a valuable advice. I encourage students to participate in international forums and seminars, dedicated to environmental and societal issues in the world, as well as propagation of history in order to become more educated as a society. Support to people in their cases of falling into difficult situations should be given and I give away my clothing and the furniture that has been replaced to people who need it. Our communities should reduce the problems related to family and marriage nature; therefore I’ve done lots of researching on these topics so in the future I can provide people with valuable information. We have to become participants in providing a material aid to socially unprotected layers of population of our communities and that is what YWCA organization does. With mentioned philosophy above, I believe that we can reach the goal of having a better change if we will work together as a unit.
