Scholarship Essay Entry – Kelsey J.

I have always considered myself a spontaneous individual – one who is willing and ready to experience new things and be open to new possibilities. That is why it was no surprise to me that I struggled in choosing a career path and settling into it straight out of high school. There were so many things I wanted to accomplish and dreams I wanted fulfilled before it came time to reopen the books and study hard.

Two and a half years later out of high school, I finally decided what career path best suits me and I am now pursuing that dream. Time away from school between high school and post secondary gave me the opportunity to work in a few different occupations and travel to a few different places meeting several influential people along the way. It was ultimately these experiences that have guided me on my chosen career path.

I am currently enrolled in a full time business program, presently working on completing my first year of education. Whether in the travel, service or food industry, every type revolves around general business principles. This education still allows me to be spontaneous in a final career choice as every industry can profit from it. I feel this program will be very beneficial to me and will create endless career opportunities in many fields or industries.

I currently hold an administrative position with my employer at a business I have been involved with for the past two and a half years. Gaining overall business experience has had a very positive impact on my studies thus far. Studying books is very informative but actually having hands-on experience has proven to be very beneficial for me. Just recently, while working there, I was given a bit of experience working in sales and marketing. This is most certainly a field of business, as well as a current class, I take great interest in and definitely look forward to pursuing further in the future. The more experience, the better!

Education is very important in today’s society and more importantly, to myself. I am very dedicated to school and am very excited to see the opportunities and experiences my education will bring. Learning is a never-ending process and I know the world has a lot to offer and teach me. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi once said, “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”  Words I truly embrace and have chosen to live by.
