Scholarship Essay Entry – Emily C.

The vision I have for my future has changed throughout childhood many times. This curiosity has led me to what I am truly passionate about and driven to succeed in. The human mind is a complicated and incredibly interesting piece of machinery. I believe I could continue to learn new things about people and their actions for the rest of my life and still be surprised. This is why I am currently enrolled at Concordia University College of Alberta. I am in the Bachelor of Arts program with a major in psychology. I plan to apply to the Applied Emphasis program in a year. This program will give me field experience that will prepare me as much as possible for the intricate and diverse world of mental health.

After I graduate I plan to become involved in the mental health community to help promote and maintain a good quality of life for individuals living with a mental illness. Every person in this world is important and should be treated as such. This means that everyone should have the freedom to reach their full potential. I would like to use my education and efforts to make this happen. Becoming involved in the community to push forward the ongoing research in the field of mental health has been an ambition of mine for the past few years.

To achieve this goal I plan to graduate with my undergraduate degree in psychology and apply to graduate school to get my masters and hopefully PhD in psychology to become a registered psychologist. Being able to research and find out new therapies really could push forward understanding in the community regarding mental health. I am just one person but with co-workers and other graduate students we could change the outlook on mental health.
