Young & Free Initiative Year Two Search

Daily Herald-Tribune

The award-winning Young & Free Initiative put on by the Common Wealth Credit Union will be kicking off its second season during student orientation Wednesday at Grande Prairie Regional College.

The provincewide program was developed to give young people an arena to express their views on everything from pop culture to politics.

“We’re going to be looking at how well do we think this person is going to do at connecting with youth.

“Are they familiar with all things web?

“Can they blog?

“Can they do videos? Do they have an engaging personality?” said Kim Crockett, Young & Free manager.

Youth between 19 and 25 years old have all of September to record a 60-second video of why they should get the position, post it to Youtube and fill out an application form at youngfreealberta.com.

Three finalists will be chosen Oct. 1 and online voting for the three will begin Oct. 17 and end Oct. 27.

“It’ll take us probably about a day or so to tabulate the results, contact the winner and we hope to announce the winner on Nov. 4,” Crockett said.

The job comes with some pretty nice perks – a digital video camera, a MacBook computer and use of a Chevrolet HHR vehicle with gas allowance are added bonuses to the $36,000 a year salary for the winning entry.
