Brent Pancheshen from Edmonton wants to be the Young & Free Spokesperson. He's 19-years-old and ready to go.
Here is Brent's blog post:
"There is a store where I grew up that sells fine, loose-leaf tea. It’s a quaint place with cluttered shelves and short, smiling cashiers. Using the word cashier to describe the people behind those counters would be like calling a diamond a rock. Those women are more than cashiers; they are heart-beats, or rays of sun… or whatever fantastic metaphor works for you. They make you want to like tea. In fact, before getting tea from them, I honestly had no preference for the stuff. That’s really what sells everything now, right."
"It’s packaging. Technically, if you think about it, those women are the package that sells the tea. But, instead of being flashy, or bright coloured with catchy misleading slogans, there wrap their tea in love. OK…That’s a little corny, but the point is there. It’s a powerful marketing ploy they have going. They make their customers feel welcomed by showing true friendliness. Their personal warmth and kindness only reflects the warmth and goodness of their tea. One day I asked them, 'Why do I love buying this stuff?' The answer was perfectly simple. They said, 'It's cause we love drinking it.'"
"To them, packaging and advertisements had nothing to do with their business plan. They were selling what they loved, and because of it, their product sold itself. I no longer live close enough to get tea on a weekly basis, but the lesson the teashop taught me remains. Being successful means loving every minute of everything you do, and nothing more."
Here is Brent's video application:
This is Brent's current situation:
"Right now, I'm taking Linguistics at the U of A. When I get out, I'm planning on traveling around the world. I want to teach English as a foreign language as I spend a year on each continent. (Antarctica pending...) That would be the reason for taking linguistics as a major. My interests include music composition, piano, bass guitar, Polynesian Fire Dancing (really fun, I suggest everyone try it), as well as long-distance running, and staying up all Friday night to watch the Saturday morning sunrise."
That's eight applicants! You have until the end of tomorrow to apply. Don't delay.
