Shane Lamotte is a 23-year-old Edmontonian who wants to be the Young & Free Spokesperson.
Here is Shane's blog post:
"Creation sustains fulfillment. My passion is to create things, whether it's simply adding one piece a day to a project or spending hours on end doing something creative. It's one of those things that I do that is satisfaction in itself. I'm not being creative so that I can have some materialistic gain; I'm doing it because the simple act of it makes me happy. I think everyone has something that they do simply because it makes them happy, yet very few of us get the chance to use that thing as a way to sustain ourselves."
"Personally, I find that if I don't do something creative every day, it consistently becomes more difficult for me to maintain a joyful experience of life in general. Creation is ingrained in me, and not simply in terms of creation at my job (although there are some days when my work is quite fulfilling). What I take pleasure in most is creating something I am passionate about, and which resonates with who I am. These blogs for instance, are a task which is fulfillment in itself; it feels good to write. I'm not writing because I want the world to read this, nor am I writing because I don't want them to. I'm writing simply for the joy of it. The experience alone is enough to make me want more, to do it again and again. Writing music is another of those self-fulfilling creations for me, as is performing for a live crowd. There are quite a few for all of us if we take the time to sit down and think about it."
"From another perspective, one could reflect on the many things we do during the day which are not fulfilling. Most people work not because they enjoy their work, but because they enjoy the end result—getting paid. We wash the dishes because we want them clean, not because we enjoy the task of washing the dishes. We wash our clothes to have clean clothes, not because we enjoy the folding, the sorting, the actual task of “doing laundry.” We watch TV to fill a void, yet it doesn't really fill anything. It does, however, make our time disappear, leaving us to wonder why we didn’t use that time to do the things which truly fulfill us. I guess the ultimate goal would be to only experience things which bring true fulfillment, happiness and joy in every moment. Is that possible? I think you know the answer."

This is Shane's current situation:
"I work semi Full Time for Autism Today as the Marketing VP and Conference Co-Ordinator. I actually just got back from Ottawa on Sunday where I was running an autism conference. I am also in the hard rock band Living Illusion; we've played for crowds of over five thousand fans. I also DJ Weddings and Christmas parties part time throughout the year. Needless to say I am very comfortable in front of people and I love being on stage, in fact it's what drives me. On a more peronal level, I enjoy art (music, writing, etc), presonal growth, reading, the universe, meditation, the internet, all forms of life, helping people, being healthy, learning, working out, honesty and me. The reason why I am submitting this is because I love and embrace change, and seriously believe in what you are doing at the Common Wealth Credit Union to support youth. It's time for the world to start recognizing that young people have a lot to contribute too. Keep up the good work! :)."
Wow. That's nine! The clock is ticking. You have until the end of tomorrow to apply.
