Webthing of the Week: Wordle.net

Today's Webthing of the Week generates cool looking "word clouds" from words that you provide. You can adjust the Wordle settings to create different effects with your word cloud (you can change the font, the layout, and even the color scheme).

To start, visit Wordle.net and click on Create you own. From there, you'll be asked to supply the text. Type in your own words, copy-paste a chunk of text, or enter a blog URL to create your word cloud.

Once you've finished tweaking your creation, you can print it out or submit it to the Wordle archive to get the code you need to embed it onto a webpage.

Use your Wordle creations to:

  • Add some flair to your website or personal blog
  • Create visual interest in a presentation or report
  • Decorate your room or workspace
  • Ramp up your online profile on social networking sites

And as an example, I've taken all the text from this blog post and turned it into a Wordle cloud of my own:

Try it out for yourself!

@Ben: Nifty, eh? Glad you've found a good use for it.
