(For all you numerology fans out there... I just realized that today is 08/08/08!)
This week's Webthing – the CD Cover Meme – is one of the coolest meta games on the net, and especially fun if you're into Photoshop or any other image editing programs.
Online meta games are challenges or activities that are created within the existing framework of a website.
For example: "Tagging" on YouTube. A vlogger (video blogger) will propose a challenge (like making a video dressed up like a superhero), and tag other vloggers to do the same. Then, they must make a video dressed up like a superhero, and tag even more people to continue the chain. YouTube's role is simply to provide a video sharing service – Tagging is a meta game that has been created using YouTube's existing framework.
But the meta game featured as this week's Webthing is known as the CD Cover Meme on Flickr.

Flickr is a photo-sharing site (Y&F even has an account with tons of snapshots from the past year!). Within the site, you can navigate to a group called The CD Cover Meme. People from all over the world play the CD Cover Meme game and then upload their resulting creations to the group.
The point of the game is to create a unique CD cover. Here are the rules:
From there, it's up to you to combine the elements and submit the finished product to the CD Cover Meme Flickr Pool.
So take some time to browse through past CD Cover Memes – some are simple, some are complex, some are comical and some are very convincing! If you're into photo editing, try making a random CD Cover yourself! Be sure to send me a copy of it at
, and I can put it up on the site!
Have a wonderful weekend!

P.S.– I've decided to post my attempt so that you can see the process step by step!
First step: Random article. By clicking on the link, I was taken to... Beta Keratin! What used to be fibrous protein rich in alpha helices is now the name of the coolest band in the world! Third step: Random photo. I clicked on the link and this was the third picture from the left. Last step: Combine all the elements into one HMV-worthy CD Cover! Pretty cool!

Second step: Random quotation. When I clicked on the link, the last quotation on the page ended with the four words Not Founded On Truth, so that will be the name of Beta-Keratin's latest album!
